Silent Sunday – April 17, 2016

FWDF5333I wanted to post one more picture from my recent trip to Sequoia and King’s Canyon National Parks. This is the “back” view of the General Grant tree, showing the great tree’s massive fire scars. The General Grant tree is both the nation’s Christmas Tree and a living shrine to those who have died in war. It is the second largest tree in the world. Wishing you all an enjoyable and restful Sunday!

  1. did the rest of the tree not wanna be in the pixure? still, you were recently (& still?) there on the CA coast or environs amongst the big trees? THAT’s always enviable to me! (big trees ‘n such)

    1. The rest of the tree was shy! Well, it was too big for me to fit in my iPhone camera lens. These trees are far north of me, but I count myself lucky to be within a days driving distance!

    1. Oh, indeed. They almost defy the imagination – some of the placards in the park said that when they shipped one felled Giant Sequoias back east to put on display it was called the “California Hoax” because nobody believed trees could reach this size or age!

      1. We have been to see the Redwoods — truly mystical. Think how many generations have tread beneath them! 🙂 Have you see the old old photo, black and white I believe, of the car driving through a tree?

      2. The Redwoods are another mystical experience! It has been far too long since I have been up far north enough to see them in their natural habitat. I have seen that photo – it’s a great one. Apparently, there are still a couple of “drive-thru” trees on private land; the ones in the National Parks fell or were removed a while ago.

  2. Your comment you left me the other day
I’m still playing it back in my head
    It was so……
That I can’t begin to say what it did for me at the time
    Thank you again
    As always Sheldon

    1. You are so welcome, Sheldon. It is the very least I can do – you have done the same for me so many times. I am thinking of you and sending you positive energy and prayers.
