Illustrated Friday – Happy New Year!

2016HappyNewYearI hope everyone has had an enjoyable and safe New Year’s Day! The holidays have been incredibly busy and I’m looking forward to things settling down and getting some more poetry up here. I did manage to complete one piece (ink and pen on toned paper)Β over the last couple of weeks – a festive reindeer just in time to ring in 2016. Enjoy!

  1. Catching up on posts, this one just totally delights me; I do hope you do a series of cards in the future! Also, your William Carlos Williams collages have given me a great start to my new year; I never really delved into his work before but you’ve inspired me.

    1. Thank you, Sunshine! I hope you are having a happy new year! I received a book of WCW poems for Christmas, and so I took it for a sign to begin 2016 with some of his work. I hope you enjoy his poems – he is an interesting literary figure, as well, he was born during this 12 year “Golden Era” for poets. Robert Frost, T.S. Eliot, Hilda Doolittle, and WCW were all born within a few years of each other. There is a great interview with WCW, conducted right before he died, in the Paris Review – http://www.theparisreview.org/interviews/4486/the-art-of-poetry-no-6-william-carlos-williams

    1. Thank you so much! I would love to make it a Christmas card! I’m hoping that each iteration of the reindeer (this is my second year/try) will be better and better – so perhaps it could be a series. πŸ™‚

  2. Your reindeer reminds me of my great nephew, a sweet child who just turned two – he’d open a Christmas gift and then show it to the mounted elk, AKA reindeer to a child! He would babble several words which was so adorable. Thanks for making me smile and I love the scarf on your festive reindeer! πŸ˜ƒ Happy New Year Marcy! πŸ’–πŸ’•πŸŽ‰

    1. You are so welcome! Your nephew sounds too cute – they rather have their own language and logic at that age, don’t they? I find it really refreshing and inspiring. I hope you had a wonderful holiday season with your family!
