Excerpt Tuesday – Since there’s no help, come let us kiss and part – Drayton

Draytonsonnet_JiartIt is hard to believe that I have posted over 300 times since starting Illustrated Poetry a little over a year ago (I must admit to a tiny thrill each time Wordpress exclaims “This is your X# post!”). I was looking back at my Tuesday posts and found this absolutely gorgeous ink portrait by my colleague Dr. Ji-Yong Kang and I wanted to share it again with you. I paired it with some of my favorite lines from Michael Drayton’s (1563-1631) sonnet, “Since there’s no help, come let us kiss and part.” No matter that they are 400 years old, they still perfectly capture the relief of leaving a relationship that is long since over. You can read the whole poem here. Composition by me. Enjoy!
