Old Poem Saturday – Haiku by Issa

OnlyOneGuyAnother classic haiku for Saturday! Today’s poem is “Only One Guy,” a haiku by Kobayashi Issa (1763-1827), translated by Cid Corman. Issa is one of the Three Masters of traditional Japanese haiku. Photograph (an extreme close-up of Vessel by Ralph Bacerra) and composition by me.

    1. Thanks! I know – as I was mentioning to SD Gates, I have no idea what the equivalent for “guy” would be in Japanese, but I get the sense that the translator tried to capture the sentiment and tone of the haiku for us. It really works!
