The last poem in our collaborative “Winter” series is a short one I wrote about the last time I visited Sequoia National Park. It was last winter and the park (and the Sierra Nevada Mountains as a whole) was in the midst of the driest winter on record – the snowpack was at 10% of normal and was largely absent near the Sequoia groves. Ms. Kerfe Roig illustrated the poem perfectly – I am humbled by how the tree looks into your eyes and brings the poem to life. More of her work can be found at Method Two Madness. Poem and composition by me, collage by Kerfe Roig.
