Double Original Friday – To Dante, My Last Student

ToDante_MyLastStudentI’m continuing my journey through poetry I wrote during 2014 and for the last Friday of the year, I’m revisiting a poem I wrote way back in the beginning of January. It is an homage to a book I return to again and again – The Divine Comedy. I still get choked up when I read the Canto where Virgil and Dante part ways at the top of Purgatory and this poem came from that place in my heart. It was featured back in September as part of a Spotlight Sunday post on me on the blog Zealous Scripts (I’m a tad behind the times, I know) – you can check that post out here! I present the poem now with the intended stanza breaks and revised just a bit. Drawing (colored pencil on toned paper of a Roman statue at the newly renovated Harvard Art Museums), poem, and composition by me. Happy Friday!
