The haiku today is not old at all, written most likely in the 1970’s. But it is a bit mysterious. Ms. Ann Atwood published a number of books of illustrated haiku (or haiga) – pairing her haiku with her own photography and discussing the art of haiga. My copy of Haiku in English: The First 100 Years says that she is deceased but gives a “?” for birth and death date. An internet search didn’t turn up any better information, except that she stopped publishing in the late 1970’s. This link gives a short review of her three books. No matter who she was and when she died, her haiku are still beguiling today. Drawing and composition by me.
