Excerpt Tuesday – The Slaughter-House – Alfred Hayes

HayesSlaughterhouse

This intriguing excerpt is from Alfred Hayes’ poem “The Slaughter-House” – read the whole poem here. Alfred Hayes was a playwright, screenwriter (including for television shows such as The Twilight Zone), and novelist (all in addition to poetry!). Composition and drawing (ink on paper) by me. The object on the right is based on a pre-Columbian Mezcala temple effigy carved between 100 B.C. – 500 A.D.
