Double Original Friday – Ocean Haiku

Today’s poem and art was inspired by a Taíno pendant in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The Taíno people inhabited a number of Caribbean islands for thousands of years, but were virtually wiped out by the arrival of the Spanish (although that is a complicated calculation, as it turns out). As a result, historical records about them are mixed – but it is thought that the pendant in the Met depicted a hurricane god. Poem, drawing (colored pencil on black paper), and composition by me.
